Bangkok: A Thai court sentenced popular singer Manasawin Nantasen, often dubbed Thailand's Michael Jackson, to two years in prison for a drunk-driving crash that killed two siblings in Bangkok.
The 64-year-old performer was convicted of drink-driving causing loss of life after his vehicle struck a stationary motorcycle on a bridge in October 2024. A 28-year-old woman died at the scene, while her 21-year-old brother later died in hospital from his injuries.
The court said the singer had surrendered, cooperated with investigators, attended the victims' funeral and paid compensation to their families. His driving licence was also revoked.
The case drew widespread attention in Thailand, where public concern has often focused on whether wealthy or influential figures are held accountable for serious crimes. A video showing the singer grieving at the crash scene went viral shortly after the incident.
