Thunderstorms and rainfall are forecast to persist across parts of southwestern Saudi Arabia throughout the week, according to the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM).
The weather authority said light to moderate rainfall is expected over the highland areas of the Jazan, Asir, Al Baha and Mecca regions, with changing weather conditions anticipated from Sunday through Saturday.
According to the forecast, showers are expected to begin around the city of Abha and western Asir on Sunday, while light rain is also likely near Taif before gradually weakening later in the day.
Rainfall is expected to return on Monday and Tuesday across southern Jazan and scattered areas of Asir, with moderate showers forecast to spread into eastern Asir by Wednesday. Similar weather conditions are expected on Thursday, particularly in areas along the Jazan-Asir border.
The NCM said rainfall could intensify on Friday afternoon, with heavy showers expected over southern Jazan before moving northward along the Kingdom’s western coast. The weather system is forecast to affect eastern Jazan, western Asir, Al Baha and parts of southern Mecca before gradually weakening.
Moderate rainfall is also expected to continue in border areas between Jazan and Asir on Saturday afternoon.
Authorities have advised residents in affected areas to follow weather updates and take necessary precautions as unstable weather conditions continue throughout the week.
