ISTANBUL:Turkish customs officials at Antalya airport seized a total of 381,750 euros in cash hidden inside baby nappies carried by a passenger arriving on a flight from Paris.

According to a statement from the trade ministry published by Turkish media, the neat bundles of euros, equivalent to around $440,000, were carefully packed into at least six pull-up nappies inside a small carry-on suitcase.

Following this unusual discovery, the public prosecutor's office in the southern resort city immediately opened an official investigation. Although Türkiye does not place a limit on the total amount of cash passengers can bring into the country, it remains a strict legal obligation to declare it at customs upon entry if the sum amounts to 10,000 euros or more.

The passenger's nationality has not been revealed. This seizure comes as the Turkish lira remains under sustained pressure from high inflation, which has stayed above 30 percent since December 2021.
