Trump Signs Order Easing Dismissal of 8,000 Federal Workers

Washington: US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order making it easier to fire about 8,000 senior federal employees, expanding his administration's efforts to restructure the federal workforce.
The decision removes long-standing civil service protections for a group of mostly higher ranking officials who actively shape or influence government policies. Most of the impacted staff are among the highest-paid professional government servants, earning about $200,000 per year.
Administration officials stated that the change is meant to strengthen accountability and guarantee that government employees faithfully carry out presidential policies. According to the White House and the Office of Personnel Management, individuals covered by the new classification will be more readily terminated for poor performance, misconduct, or failure to follow administration directions.
Critics, including federal employee unions and government watchdog groups, are concerned that the move threatens politicising the civil service and weakening protections designed to keep government work free of political influence. Several legal challenges have already been made, but court proceedings are waiting while the policy is finalised.
The measure revives and expands on an idea previously floated during Trump's first term called ‘Schedule F,’ which attempted to make it easier to remove federal employees participating in policymaking duties. While officials claim approximately 8,000 roles are currently affected, they have hinted that additional employees may be subject to the new restrictions in the future.
