New York: Bahrain and Pakistan have held high-level talks at the United Nations to address escalating regional friction, with a heavy focus on safeguarding critical trade routes and defusing tensions involving Iran.
The strategic meeting took place on the sidelines of the UN Security Council sessions between Bahraini Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Because both nations are currently serving together as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, the ministers used the opportunity to align their diplomatic efforts on pressing global and regional security issues.
A primary focus of the discussion was the ongoing vulnerability of the Strait of Hormuz. The ministers evaluated international strategies required to keep the critical choke point open to maritime traffic, warning that any disruptions to the shipping lane would trigger severe consequences for global energy markets, food security, and international commerce.
The diplomats also tackled broader political instability in the Middle East, specifically exchanging views on the friction between the United States and Iran. Additionally, the talks addressed concerns regarding reported Iranian attacks targeting Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. Pakistan briefed Bahrain on its diplomatic position, emphasizing its ongoing advocacy for dialogue and peaceful, mediated solutions to resolve the regional standoff.
Supported by senior UN delegates from both sides, the two foreign ministers concluded by pledging closer cooperation inside the Security Council chamber to promote stability across the wider region.
