Berlin: Two people were killed in a violent fight at a school in Gosen-Neu Zittau, southeast of Berlin, and police have arrested a young 19, German man suspected of the attack.

Police said they received multiple emergency calls around 1:45 p.m. on Thursday reporting a violent incident on the school grounds in Brandenburg's Oder-Spree area. When officers arrived, they found two people had died. Both died despite receiving immediate medical care.

The victims were an 18 years old girl and a 30 years old man, according to authorities and local media. Police confirmed the ages but provided limited details regarding their identities. According to German media, the woman was a student, while the man worked at a daycare facility on campus.

The suspect was arrested on the scene and is strongly thought of being guilty. According to police, their first investigation shows that the crime was relationship-related rather than a random act or indiscriminate attack.

The incident has greatly shook the local community. School administrators and Brandenburg officials have organised for psychiatric and emergency assistance for students and faculty, while classes at the impacted site have been cancelled.
