Thailand warns ‘problematic’ tourists could face deportation

Bangkok: Thailand has warned foreign tourists that anyone who disobey the law, cause problems, or behave inappropriately could face having their visas cancelled and being deported.
Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul said that visitors of all countries are welcome as long as they follow Thai laws and respect local culture. The warning comes after complaints of disruptive behaviour by groups of international tourists in popular resorts such as Phuket and Koh Samui.
Thai officials have stated that serious wrongdoing may result in immigration action, including visa cancellation and expulsion from the country. Existing travel advice also advises that illegal activity may result in imprisonment and expulsion.
The decision comes as Thai tourist destinations face increased scrutiny for events involving international visitors, as well as concerns about the impact on local communities and the country's tourism image.
