Beijing: China and Pakistan reaffirmed their strategic partnership, counterterrorism cooperation and regional coordination during Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Beijing, where he, along with Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir, met Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In a joint statement issued following the meetings, both sides pledged to strengthen security measures to protect Chinese personnel, projects and institutions operating in Pakistan. China expressed support for Pakistan’s continued fight against terrorism, while both countries opposed what they described as “double standards” in global counterterrorism efforts.
The statement also highlighted cooperation on regional and international issues, including Afghanistan, the Middle East and South Asia. Pakistan briefed China on the latest developments in Jammu and Kashmir, while Beijing reiterated that the dispute should be resolved peacefully in accordance with the UN Charter, relevant UN Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreements.
China also appreciated Pakistan’s role in facilitating temporary ceasefire efforts between the United States and Iran through the Islamabad talks, with both sides expressing readiness to contribute to peace and stability in the Gulf and Middle East region.
The two countries further agreed to enhance cooperation in artificial intelligence, support multilateralism and strengthen coordination within international forums including the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
Both sides also signed multiple cooperation agreements across various sectors during the visit, which coincided with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan.
