LONDON: A massive broadcasting glitch briefly panicked listeners across the UK when a radio station accidentally announced the death of King Charles III. Radio Caroline, a historic former pirate radio station broadcasting from Essex, issued an immediate apology following the accidental on-air blunder.

The false announcement occurred on Tuesday afternoon when a severe server error unexpectedly triggered the studio's highly secure ‘Death of a Monarch’ procedure. This mandatory emergency protocol, which all British radio stations maintain in a state of permanent readiness, immediately overrode the live DJs and made them play ‘God Save the King.’

As dictated by the emergency protocol, the station automatically fell completely silent right after the anthem finished. This sudden 15-minute radio silence alerted engineers to the technical failure, allowing them to pull the automated system offline and safely restore normal programming.

Station manager Peter Moore expressed deep regret over the accident, offering an official apology to the King and the station's audience for any emotional distress. At the time of the accidental broadcast, King Charles and Queen Camilla were entirely unaffected, cheerfully completing a highly publicized royal tour of Northern Ireland
