Putin Arrives in China for Talks with Xi on Strategic Ties
Vladimir Putin arrived in China on Tuesday for high-level talks with Xi Jinping aimed at reinforcing the countries’ strategic partnership and expanding cooperation in energy and trade.
Putin landed in Beijing shortly after the visit of Donald Trump, with the Kremlin describing the Russia-China relationship as stable and enduring amid shifting global dynamics.
The Russian leader was welcomed at Beijing Capital International Airport by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and an official reception ceremony.
According to the Kremlin, the two leaders are expected to discuss regional and international issues, including energy cooperation and the proposed “Power of Siberia 2” gas pipeline linking Russia and China through Mongolia.
Trade and energy ties between Moscow and Beijing have strengthened significantly since the start of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, with China becoming a major buyer of Russian oil and gas exports.
Ahead of the visit, both leaders exchanged congratulatory messages marking 30 years of strategic partnership between the two countries, while Chinese officials praised the “enduring friendship” between Beijing and Moscow.
The two sides are also expected to sign a joint declaration following their meetings in Beijing.
