Muharraq Street Marks Poet’s Legacy

A street in Muharraq Governorate has been named after the late Bahraini writer and poet Ali Abdulla Khalifa, in recognition of his contributions to the Kingdom’s literary and cultural life.

The move follows a directive by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to honour Khalifa’s literary legacy and contributions to Bahrain’s cultural heritage.

A plaque bearing the late writer and poet’s name was unveiled during a ceremony attended by Information Minister Dr Ramzan bin Abdullah Al Noaimi, Muharraq Governor Salman bin Isa bin Hindi Al Mannai, Muharraq Municipality Director General Khalid Ali Al Qallaf, officials from the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), and members of Khalifa’s family.

Al Noaimi said the royal directive reflects His Majesty the King’s appreciation for Bahrain’s leading cultural and literary figures and his commitment to honouring national figures who have contributed to the Kingdom’s cultural and intellectual life.

He praised Khalifa’s distinguished literary career and rich creative legacy, describing it as an important part of Bahrain’s cultural memory and noting his contribution to the Kingdom’s cultural scene and the wider region.

BACA President Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa also welcomed the royal directive, highlighting Khalifa’s contribution to Bahrain’s cultural and intellectual life.

He stressed the importance of preserving the names and legacies of the Kingdom’s cultural figures as part of Bahrain’s collective memory for future generations.
