Women’s Role Expands

The legislators said the anniversary, held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, represents an important milestone in Bahrain’s efforts to empower women and reflects their growing role as key partners in national development and decision-making.

They praised the efforts of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women, in advancing women’s achievements and expanding their contributions to Bahrain’s development and prosperity.

Over the past 25 years, the Supreme Council for Women has become one of Bahrain’s leading national institutions supporting women’s advancement through policies promoting equal opportunities, integrating women’s needs into development programmes and contributing to the development of legislation and legal frameworks protecting women’s rights.

At the legislative level, Bahrain introduced a series of laws and amendments that strengthened women’s rights, promoted equal opportunities, and expanded women’s participation in political life and decision-making.

The legislators also highlighted developments in legislation concerning family and child protection, labour-market regulation and the rights of working women, alongside government policies aimed at helping women balance their professional and family responsibilities.

Bahraini women have also expanded their presence in the Kingdom’s legislative and executive branches, holding prominent positions in the ministerial, judicial, diplomatic and leadership fields.

Their representation has also grown on the boards of government and private institutions and across sectors including finance, education, healthcare, engineering, technology and entrepreneurship.
