Australia secures jet fuel from China to keep flying in energy squeeze

SYDNEY: Australia has successfully secured three major shipments of jet fuel from China to stabilize its domestic aviation industry amid a worsening global energy squeeze.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on Tuesday that the emergency acquisition totals 600,000 barrels of aviation fuel. The strategic delivery effectively doubles Australia's existing national supply, providing a crucial buffer for commercial airlines facing potential groundings. Albanese emphasized that the government acted swiftly to prevent widespread disruptions to domestic and international flight schedules.
The severe supply shortage stems from an ongoing Middle East crisis, which has heavily disrupted major oil shipping lanes and forced severe rationing across various global markets.
Commercial airports nationwide had warned of imminent fuel exhaustion before the bilateral agreement was finalized. While the incoming Chinese tankers will temporarily alleviate immediate operational pressures, Australian energy analysts warn that long-term supply chain vulnerabilities remain highly susceptible to shifting international market conditions.
