DHAKA: Anti-terrorism police in Bangladesh are interrogating a former soldier arrested near the Indian border following a month-long manhunt over a suspected domestic attack plot, authorities announced Saturday.
The 23-year-old suspect, identified as Mohammad Rahed Hossain Mahed, was apprehended in a hideout in the northeastern district of Moulvibazar. The nationwide search began last month after intelligence officials intercepted credible warnings of planned attacks targeting high-profile locations across the country.
According to Md Moniruzzaman, the local police chief overseeing the initial detention, the intercepted threats specifically detailed potential plots against major international airports, the national parliament building, and several prominent places of worship.
Security forces have not yet publicly identified any broader extremist networks or specific foreign entities connected to the former serviceman. While the active interrogation continues in Dhaka, regional security protocols around major government infrastructure and religious centers remain heightened.
