Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed support for Beijing's growing diplomatic role in the face of rising regional tensions on Friday. He stated that Tehran is open to Chinese cooperation in attempts to end the ongoing Middle East war.

According to Araghchi, Iran welcomed ‘any support’ including diplomatic engagement or mediation that aims to put an end to hostilities and restore peace. His comments coincide with Beijing's increased demands for communication and regional de-escalation measures while presenting itself as a possible mediator for Tehran and Western nations.

China's diplomatic outreach on the issue has been on the rise. Earlier, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi informed Araghchi that Beijing wants secure passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital international oil shipping route, to be restored and favours a political settlement through negotiations.

The remarks also come after it was reported that Iran had received messages from the US indicating a desire to carry on negotiations in spite of the ongoing hostilities.
