Rabat: The U.S. Army has confirmed the recovery of the remains of Spc. Mariyah Symone Collington, the second of two American soldiers who went missing during the African Lion 2026 military exercises in Morocco. Collington, 19, was located on May 12 by a joint U.S.-Moroccan team in a coastal cave near the Cap Draa Training Area, approximately 500 meters from where she and another soldier reportedly entered the Atlantic Ocean.
The recovery brings a close to an extensive search and rescue operation that spanned over 21,300 square kilometers and involved more than 1,000 personnel. The mission followed the earlier recovery of 1st Lt. Kendrick Lamont Key Jr., whose body was found in the ocean on May 9.
According to military officials, both soldiers were off duty and on a recreational hike when they reportedly fell from a cliff. Their remains have since been transported via a U.S. Air Force C-130J for repatriation to the United States.
