Kathmandu: A Turkish Airlines Airbus A330 caught fire while landing at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal, on Monday morning, triggering an emergency response and temporary shutdown of the airport.

The aircraft, arriving from Istanbul as Flight TK726, reportedly experienced a fire in its right landing gear shortly after touching down. Thick smoke and flames were seen coming from the wheels as emergency crews rushed to the runway to contain the blaze.

All 277 passengers and 11 crew members on board were safely evacuated through emergency exits, and no injuries were reported. Airport officials confirmed that firefighters quickly brought the situation under control.

The incident briefly disrupted flight operations at Nepal’s busiest airport, with several incoming flights delayed while authorities inspected and cleared the runway. Initial reports suggest the fire may have been caused by a technical issue in the aircraft’s hydraulic or landing gear system, though investigations are still underway.

Turkish Airlines said technical teams are examining the aircraft, while Nepal’s aviation authorities have launched a formal inquiry into the incident.
