California: Apple has reached a massive $250 million settlement to resolve a class-action lawsuit alleging the company misled consumers regarding the artificial intelligence capabilities of its Siri voice assistant. The deal addresses claims that Apple promoted ‘vaporware’ features to boost sales of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 Pro models.
The lawsuit, filed in California, argued that Apple's marketing suggested a more advanced, personalized Siri was "available now" during the late 2024 launch period.
However, many of these promised AI tools were either delayed or remained in development for years. An investigation by the Better Business Bureau’s National Advertising Division also concluded that Apple's ads falsely implied the features were functional at the time of purchase.
Under the terms of the settlement, which still awaits final judicial approval on June 17, approximately 36 million devices are eligible for a claim. Each class member could receive a payout ranging from $25 to $95.
Apple representatives stated that the resolution allows the company to move past the legal challenge without admitting liability, focusing instead on the future rollout of its AI ecosystem.
