Istanbul: An 11-year-old girl has died on Monday from injuries sustained during a school shooting in southern Türkiye more than two weeks ago, bringing the final death toll of the tragedy to 10.

The massacre was carried out by a 14-year-old boy who opened fire at the school, killing nine students, aged between 10 and 11, and one teacher. The attacker, who reportedly brought five firearms to the premises, died at the scene.

Authorities have confirmed the youth was the son of a former police inspector, who has since been arrested in connection with the incident.

The shooting occurred amid a wave of violence, following a separate incident the previous day in Sanliurfa province where a former student wounded 16 people at a high school before taking his own life.

The dual attacks have sparked significant public outrage across the country. In response, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has dismissed a deputy education minister and pledged to introduce stricter measures, including new restrictions on gun ownership.
