Oakland: Co-founder and president of OpenAI Greg Brockman, is scheduled to testify on Monday in the high-stakes California lawsuit brought by Elon Musk.

The proceedings in the Oakland courthouse enter their second week following three days of testimony from Musk, who is seeking to force the creators of ChatGPT to revert to a non-profit foundation.

The legal battle holds significant implications for OpenAI’s future and its reported preparations for an initial public offering, as the company is currently valued at over $850 billion.

Musk alleges that the firm has strayed from its original mission to develop artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity, rather than for profit. He has also expressed ongoing concerns regarding the existential risks transformative AI poses to society.

During the trial, OpenAI's legal team has countered by questioning Musk's own financial motives, pointing to his decision to fold his AI venture, xAI, into SpaceX. Meanwhile, a message allegedly sent by Musk on the eve of the trial—warning CEO Sam Altman and Brockman they would become the "most hated men in America"—may be shown to the jury this week.

The court may also hear from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella regarding allegations of illegal funding for OpenAI's commercial transformation. While the sector faces fierce competition from firms in China and rivals like Anthropic, Sam Altman is not expected to take the stand until the week of May 11.
