North Korea faces 'severe' drought: state media

Email: online@newsofbahrain.com

Pyongyang: North Korean state media has issued urgent warnings as the country faces its most severe drought in years, threatening critical crop yields. Record-low rainfall across key agricultural provinces has prompted the government to mobilise ‘all available forces’ to combat the dry spell.

With rivers and reservoirs reaching dangerously low levels, authorities have deployed thousands of office workers and students to rural areas to assist in water transport and irrigation efforts.

The drought comes at a particularly vulnerable time for the nation, as it struggles with ongoing food shortages and international sanctions. Experts warn that a failure in the spring harvest could lead to a significant spike in malnutrition and reliance on emergency aid.

To mitigate the crisis, Pyongyang is reportedly prioritizing water allocation for staple crops like rice and maize, while urging citizens to practice extreme water conservation.

The situation remains a high-priority concern for regional analysts monitoring North Korea’s domestic stability and its potential impact on international relations
