Hammer-wielding man attacks Tokyo teenagers: reports

SEOUL: Public safety concerns have spiked in Tokyo following reports of a violent assault involving a hammer-wielding man targeting a group of teenagers. The incident occurred in a busy district during daylight hours, causing panic among bystanders and local residents.
According to preliminary reports, the assailant approached the victims without warning, striking multiple individuals before being subdued by police officers who arrived shortly after the alarm was raised.
The victims, all of whom are reportedly in their mid-to-late teens, were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment of head and limb injuries; none of the injuries are currently believed to be life-threatening.
The suspect, a man in his 40s, was arrested at the scene on charges of attempted murder and assault. While a motive has not yet been established, investigators are looking into the suspect’s history and whether the attack was random or premeditated.
Tokyo authorities have increased patrols in the area to reassure the public and have urged witnesses to provide any footage or testimony to assist the ongoing investigation.
