ATHENS: An 89-year-old gunman caused panic in central Athens on Tuesday by opening fire at two separate public locations. The attacks targeted a National Social Security Fund (EFKA) office and a city courthouse.
The assailant used a short-barreled shotgun concealed under a trenchcoat. At the EFKA building, he shot a male employee in the leg before moving to the courthouse. There, he fired again on the ground floor, causing pellet injuries to three female staff members.
Following a brief manhunt, police recovered the weapon. While a specific motive is still under investigation, the suspect reportedly left envelopes containing documents at the scene to explain his actions. At least four people were wounded in the spree.
