Lebanon’s President Defends Israel Talks, Calls War Decision ‘Treason’

Beirut: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said that direct talks with Israel are aimed at ending the long-running conflict with Hezbollah and restoring stability. He stressed that his goal is to reach a deal similar to the 1949 armistice, while making it clear that Lebanon will not accept any humiliating terms.
Aoun strongly criticized those who led the country into war, calling it “treason” and accusing them of serving foreign interests. He defended the decision to negotiate, saying it is a step toward peace,not betrayal. He also emphasized that his priority is to protect Lebanon’s sovereignty and prevent further destruction.
