Phoenix: US President Donald Trump said on Friday that the United States and Iran would jointly remove uranium from Tehran’s nuclear sites under any future peace agreement, before transferring the material to US territory.

Speaking at an event hosted by Turning Point USA in Phoenix, Arizona, Trump said large excavators would be used to recover what he described as “nuclear dust.”

“We’re going to go in together with Iran. We’re going to get it. We’re going to take it back home to the USA very soon,” Trump said.

His remarks came despite earlier statements from Iran’s foreign ministry rejecting any transfer of the country’s enriched uranium stockpile abroad.

Trump had also claimed on Thursday that Iran had agreed to hand over its enriched uranium, though he provided no further details.

The US has long accused Iran of enriching uranium beyond civilian needs and seeking the capability to build a nuclear weapon, an allegation Tehran has consistently denied.

Trump struck an optimistic tone about negotiations, telling reporters a deal was “very close” and that there were “no sticking points.”

His comments came during an appearance where he was introduced by Erika Kirk, widow of Charlie Kirk, a prominent Trump ally who was killed in September.
