Paris :A man in Paris got the surprise of his life after winning a painting by Pablo Picasso worth $1 million — all from a raffle ticket that cost just $117.
Ari Hodara, 58, said he couldn’t believe it when he got the call and even wondered if it was a scam. He had bought the ticket by chance while dining at a restaurant and later found out he had won the artwork.
The prize was “Head of a Woman,” a portrait painted in 1941 by Picasso of his partner Dora Maar.
The raffle sold 120,000 tickets worldwide and raised about $14 million, with funds going toward Alzheimer’s research. This is not the first time such raffles have been held — previous winners have also taken home valuable Picasso artworks.
For Hodara, what started as a casual purchase turned into a life-changing moment — and he plans to keep the painting.
