Prince Harry Sued by Charity He Co-Founded Amid Internal Dispute

London: A charity co-founded by Prince Harry in memory of his mother, Princess Diana, has filed a defamation lawsuit against him after he stepped down as patron last year.

The charity, Sentebale, which supports young people living with HIV in Botswana and Lesotho, filed the case in London’s High Court. Harry and his close friend Mark Dyer are being sued over alleged defamatory statements, though full details of the case are not yet public.

The dispute began in 2023 over disagreements about a new fundraising strategy. In March 2025, Harry and co-founder Prince Seeiso stepped down from their roles, saying the relationship between the board and its chair, Sophie Chandauka, had broken down.

Chandauka later accused Harry of trying to push her out through bullying and harassment, claims that added to the public fallout. An investigation by the Charity Commission for England and Wales criticised both sides for handling the dispute publicly and damaging the charity’s reputation, but found no evidence of widespread bullying.

The situation has drawn attention to internal conflicts within the organisation, raising concerns about its ability to focus on its humanitarian work.
