GENEVA: The United Nations warned on Friday, that Lebanon is spiraling into a severe food security crisis as ongoing military strikes disrupt supply chains and send prices soaring. The World Food Programme (WFP) reported that the nation’s entire food system is reeling, with bread prices rising by 17% and vegetables surging by over 20% in just one month.

The conflict, which intensified following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader in March, has already displaced over a million people. WFP Country Director Allison Oman noted that farmers in southern Lebanon are unable to tend their fields, while rising fuel costs further strain the population. Although some aid convoys have reached those in need, security concerns continue to block vital deliveries.
