Baghdad: At least seven people, including a 8 year old child, were killed in Iraq after projectiles were fired amid the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. The strikes hit a residential area, sparking fresh concerns over the safety of civilians in neighbouring countries caught in the crossfire of regional tensions.
The incident occurred despite international diplomatic efforts to stabilise the region under a recently announced ceasefire. Local medical officials confirmed that in addition to the fatalities, several others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.
While no group has officially claimed responsibility for the launch, the event adds to a growing list of secondary impacts the U.S.-Iran conflict has had on Iraqi security. Iraqi authorities have repeatedly called on both parties to respect their national sovereignty and protect non-combatants from the fallout of the hostilities.
