U.S. Embassies in Qatar and Iraq Issue Fresh Security Warnings

The U.S. Embassies in Qatar and Iraq have issued updated security alerts urging American citizens to exercise extreme caution amid heightened regional tensions and concerns over possible retaliatory attacks.

Qatar: Embassy Advises Heightened Vigilance

The U.S. Embassy in Doha has advised American citizens to remain vigilant and be prepared to take immediate protective action, including “duck and cover” in a secure location if local authorities issue an emergency alert.

Officials also noted updates to previous safety guidance, replacing the former “shelter-in-place” instruction with a revised “Mission Posture” framework.

According to the advisory, the embassy is operating under reduced capacity with essential emergency personnel. Americans currently in Qatar are urged to:

  • Remain alert and follow local authority instructions
  • Prepare emergency supplies including food, water, and medication
  • Be ready to shelter in a secure location if required

The embassy also warned that there remains a risk of targeting of U.S. citizens and interests amid broader regional tensions.

Iraq: U.S. Citizens Urged to Leave Immediately

The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad has issued a more urgent advisory, warning that U.S. citizens should leave Iraq as soon as possible due to ongoing security risks.

The warning highlights concerns that Iran-aligned groups may target locations associated with the United States, including universities in Baghdad, Sulaymaniyah, and Dohuk, as well as other perceived U.S.-linked institutions.

The embassy further cautioned that:

  • U.S. citizens should not travel to Iraq under any circumstances
  • Those currently in the country should depart immediately
  • Embassy and consulate access should be avoided due to ongoing risks, including missiles, drones, and rocket activity

The U.S. mission in Iraq remains operational under ordered departure conditions, primarily to assist American citizens already in the country.

These advisories come amid escalating regional tensions and reflect heightened concerns over potential retaliatory actions affecting U.S. personnel and civilians across parts of the Middle East.
