Jerusalem: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he held talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, who believes recent U.S.-Israeli military gains against Iran could be turned into a negotiated agreement.

In a video statement on Monday, Netanyahu said Trump sees 'an opportunity' to leverage battlefield achievements into a deal that would meet the war’s objectives while safeguarding Israel’s vital interests.

“President Trump believes there is a chance to leverage the tremendous achievements of the IDF and the U.S. military in order to realise the war’s objectives in an agreement, an agreement that will safeguard our vital interests,” Netanyahu said.

The remarks came after Trump indicated that Washington is engaged in discussions with Tehran aimed at ending the conflict.

Despite the possibility of negotiations, Netanyahu made clear that Israeli military operations would continue. He said Israel is pressing ahead with strikes in both Iran and Lebanon, targeting missile capabilities and nuclear infrastructure.

“We are crushing the missile program and the nuclear program, and continuing to inflict severe blows on Hezbollah,” he said, referring to the Iran-backed group Hezbollah.

Netanyahu also claimed that recent operations had resulted in the killing of two nuclear scientists, adding that Israel remains committed to protecting its interests under any circumstances.

The developments highlight a dual-track approach, with diplomatic efforts underway even as military operations continue across the region.
