Trump: “Very Strong Talks” With Iran Could End Conflict
US President Donald Trump said the United States has a “very serious chance of a deal” with Iran that could end the ongoing conflict and prevent Tehran from pursuing nuclear weapons. Speaking to reporters at Palm Beach, Trump described the talks as “very strong” and confirmed that his advisers, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, have been actively involved.
Trump outlined that the negotiations cover multiple points, with Iran reportedly agreeing to give up its nuclear weapons program. “We have major points of agreement; I would say almost all points of agreement,” Trump said.
He also addressed potential economic impacts, claiming that “the price of oil will drop like a rock” if a deal is successfully implemented. Oil prices have surged since the conflict escalated, with Iran threatening vessels in the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz.
On the timing and seriousness of the talks, Trump said: "We’ve had very strong talks with Iran. If they follow through, it could end the conflict."
The president also shared insights on the military pressure that preceded the negotiations: "Tomorrow morning, sometime their time, we were expecting to blow up their largest electric generating plants that cost over $10bn. It was a very good one, there was no dearth of money. One shot it is gone. It collapses. Why would they want that? So they called, I didn't call. They called. They want to make a deal."
Addressing the leadership situation in Iran, Trump clarified:
"We’re dealing with a man who is highly respected. We’ve wiped out everybody else. We don’t know whether the new supreme leader is living."
On uranium and the nuclear negotiations, Trump added:
"It’s very easy. If we have a deal, we’ll handle the uranium ourselves."
The president emphasized that any agreement must ensure “no more wars, no more nuclear weapons,” and reiterated that Tehran must adhere to these terms for a deal to proceed.
