Trump Calls NATO Allies “Cowards” Amid Iran Conflict
The U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticized NATO allies over what he described as their lack of support in the ongoing U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran, as tensions continue to escalate in the region.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Friday, Trump accused NATO countries of failing to contribute to military efforts while still voicing concerns about rising oil prices. He described the allies as “cowards” and warned that their stance would not be forgotten.
His remarks come as the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed, disrupting global oil shipments and contributing to volatility in international energy markets.
Trump argued that NATO nations could play a role in reopening the strategic waterway, calling it a “simple military maneuver” that carries minimal risk. He emphasized that the continued disruption of shipping routes is a key driver behind the surge in oil prices.
The U.S. president has been urging allies to help secure maritime routes, despite reports that many were not consulted prior to the escalation of hostilities, which began on February 28. The conflict has since impacted global markets, with widespread humanitarian consequences, including casualties and large-scale displacement.
Meanwhile, NATO confirmed it is adjusting its operational posture in Iraq in response to the regional situation. Alliance spokesperson Allison Hart stated that the changes are part of precautionary measures linked to the ongoing conflict.
Additionally, U.S. Air Force General Alexus Grynkewich confirmed that NATO personnel involved in the Iraq mission have been temporarily relocated to Europe as security concerns rise.
