Qatar Files ICAO Complaint Over Airspace Crisis

The State of Qatar has formally raised concerns over the current regional airspace situation, submitting an official letter to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) amid escalating tensions following reported Iranian attacks.

In the communication addressed to ICAO Council President Toshiyuki Onuma, Qatar outlined the impact of ongoing developments on air traffic and international flight routes. The letter described the alleged attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran as a “flagrant violation” of Qatar’s sovereignty and a breach of the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation.

Qatar emphasized that it reserves all its rights under international law in response to the situation.

The letter also detailed the consequences of airspace closures, highlighting significant disruptions to passenger travel and air cargo operations passing through Qatar, a major global aviation hub. Authorities noted that mitigation efforts are underway, including the arrangement of evacuation flights and support services for affected passengers.

Additionally, Qatar stressed the urgency of reopening regional airspace and airports, underlining the country’s critical role in global transit and international air transport connectivity.
