SEOUL: North Korea launched a projectile toward its eastern waters on Saturday, according to reports from South Korea and Japan. Tokyo officials indicated the object may have been a ballistic missile, fired while the U.S. and South Korea were engaged in joint military exercises.
The South Korean military confirmed the launch in a short statement to reporters but provided no specific details. Japan’s coast guard later stated that the projectile appeared to have already fallen into the sea.
