WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump says the United States may escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz if necessary and warns of possible strikes on Iran in the coming week.

Donald Trump said the United States could provide military escort to oil tankers passing through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz if the situation requires it.

In an interview with Fox News broadcast on Friday, Trump stated that Washington hopes ongoing military efforts led by the United States will proceed successfully.

Responding to a question about whether the U.S. would assist oil tankers navigating the vital maritime route, Trump said, “We will do that if necessary. But, as you know, we hope things go well. We will see what happens,” without providing further details.

During the same interview, the U.S. president warned that Iran could face strong military action soon, saying the United States would “hit them very hard next week.”

Trump’s remarks come amid growing tensions in the region and a sharp rise in global energy prices. The ongoing U.S.-Israeli military operations have entered their 14th day, contributing to increased uncertainty in energy markets.

Oil prices climbed close to $100 per barrel on Friday, reflecting concerns about supply disruptions and the security of shipping routes in the Gulf.
