Army Releases Suspect Images in Drone Theft Case
The U.S. Army has announced a financial reward for information leading to the arrest of two suspects accused of stealing drones from a military base, amid growing concerns over potential drone-related threats to U.S. territory.
According to The Washington Post, the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division has offered a $5,000 reward for information that could help locate and apprehend the individuals who allegedly stole the drones from Fort Campbell in Kentucky during November.
Officials said the drones were taken between November 21 and 24, although it has not been disclosed when the theft was discovered.
The stolen equipment consists of Skydio X10D drones, lightweight long-range quadcopter systems used for aerial surveillance and reconnaissance. Manufacturer data indicates that the drones are equipped with artificial intelligence technology to avoid obstacles and can connect to 5G networks, providing extended communication range. Each unit is valued at approximately $30,000, according to ABJ Drone Academy.
Army investigators have released images of the two suspects, who were seen wearing gloves, light-colored jackets, and winter hats. One of the individuals was also wearing a mask.
The intensified search for the suspects and the stolen equipment comes amid ongoing tensions involving Iran and heightened security concerns. The effort also follows a warning issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to local law enforcement agencies regarding a potential threat of retaliatory drone strikes in California.
According to the alert, Iran reportedly sought to carry out a surprise drone attack launched from an unidentified vessel off the U.S. coast, targeting unspecified locations in California, in the event that Washington conducted strikes against Iran.
