Kuwait’s armed forces intercepted several incoming ballistic missiles and drones early Thursday after hostile aerial targets entered the country’s airspace, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Defense.
In a statement issued by the official spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Saud Abdulaziz Al-Atwan, the Kuwaiti Armed Forces said the attacks began at dawn on March 12, 2026.
Air defense systems detected five ballistic missiles, successfully intercepting and destroying four of them. The remaining missile fell outside the designated threat zone.
Military radar also detected seven hostile drones, with five intercepted and destroyed by air defense systems. Two additional drones crashed outside the threat area. Authorities later confirmed that two drones targeted vital facilities, bringing the total number of hostile drones aimed at Kuwait to nine.
The attacks resulted in human injuries and material damage, according to the statement.
The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army clarified that the explosions heard in several areas across the country were caused by air defense systems intercepting hostile aerial targets.
Officials also urged the public to follow safety and security instructions issued by relevant authorities.
The Kuwaiti Armed Forces reaffirmed that they remain fully prepared to confront any threats and will continue taking all necessary measures to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, security, and stability while protecting national interests and resources.
