Three Commercial Ships Hit in Straits of Hormuz in Separate Attacks

Three commercial vessels were targeted in separate attacks across the Gulf on Wednesday, intensifying security concerns in one of the world’s most critical energy shipping routes.

According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) security center, the crew of a cargo ship traveling through the Strait of Hormuz was forced to abandon the vessel after an “unidentified projectile” struck the ship, triggering a fire on board.

In separate incidents, a bulk carrier and a container ship were also hit in waters off the United Arab Emirates, further raising alarm over the safety of commercial shipping in the region.

The Royal Thai Navy confirmed that the bulk carrier Mayuree Naree was attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Authorities said 20 crew members were rescued by the Royal Navy of Oman, while rescue efforts were continuing for three remaining crew members. The cause of the attack remains under investigation.
