Washington D.C.: Donald Trump, the President of the United States, said on Saturday that Iran is no longer the “bully of the Middle East” and has become the “loser of the Middle East” following joint military strikes by the United States and Israel.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Iran had “apologised” and “surrendered” to its Middle Eastern neighbours, promising not to launch further attacks against them. He said the pledge came as a result of what he described as relentless military pressure from US and Israeli forces.
Trump also warned that Iran would be “hit very hard” on Saturday as the conflict in the region entered its second week. The comments came amid escalating tensions after strikes that reportedly killed Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader.
According to Trump, Iran had previously sought to “take over and rule the Middle East,” but he claimed the country had now suffered a historic defeat to surrounding regional states.
“They have said, ‘Thank you President Trump.’ I have said, ‘You’re welcome!’ Iran is no longer the ‘Bully of the Middle East,’ they are, instead, ‘THE LOSER OF THE MIDDLE EAST,’ and will be for many decades until they surrender or, more likely, completely collapse,” Trump wrote.
He further said additional targets were under “serious consideration” for strikes, warning that areas and groups not previously considered could now face military action because of what he called Iran’s “bad behaviour.”
There has been no immediate response from officials in Iran regarding Trump’s claims.
