Riyadh: Ashwaq Alsaieri has etched her name in sporting history as the first woman from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to complete all seven Abbott World Marathon Majors – Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, Sydney and New York.

Raised in a large family with six siblings, Alsaieri never imagined her love for running would take her across the world’s most iconic marathon courses. Her passion initially puzzled her family, but their understanding soon turned into unwavering support.

After years of disciplined training under her coach in Saudi Arabia, Alsaieri completed the final leg of her journey at the New York City Marathon last November. Crossing the finish line marked more than a personal triumph; it symbolised a breakthrough moment for Arab women in sport.

Alsaieri described each race as carrying “a piece of home” with her, calling the achievement a statement that Arab women belong on every starting line in the world.

Now signed with global sportswear brand New Balance, Alsaieri hopes to inspire women across Saudi Arabia and the Arab world, mentor young athletes and continue pushing her limits. While the Olympics remains a dream, she says creating impact and visibility for women in sport is her true mission.
