Trump Ties Nobel Peace Prize Snub to Greenland, Norway Confirms Letter

Oslo: Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has acknowledged the authenticity of a letter sent by former U.S. President Donald Trump, according to Norwegian officials and media reports. The letter, addressed to the Norwegian leadership, has sparked diplomatic attention for its unusually direct language and sweeping geopolitical claims.

In the letter, Trump reportedly links Norway’s decision not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize to broader U.S. strategic interests, arguing that the move freed him from what he described as an obligation to prioritize “purely peace” considerations. The correspondence also questions Denmark’s “right of ownership” over Greenland, asserting that historical claims are insufficient and suggesting the United States has comparable historical ties to the territory.

The letter further argues that Denmark cannot adequately protect Greenland from external threats, including Russia and China, and claims that global security would remain at risk unless the United States has what Trump described as “complete and total control” of Greenland. Trump also reiterates his long-held view that he has done more for NATO than any individual since its founding, adding that the alliance should now act in U.S. interests.

Norwegian authorities have not indicated that the letter will influence the Nobel Committee, which operates independently of the government. Denmark has not formally responded to the reported contents, but Greenland’s status as an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark has been consistently reaffirmed by Copenhagen.

The confirmation of the letter’s authenticity adds a new chapter to Trump’s past public interest in acquiring Greenland, a proposal first raised during his presidency and widely rejected by Denmark and Greenlandic leaders.
