At least 14 people, including women and children, were killed and several others sustained injuries on Saturday following a horrific mini-truck accident in the Sargodha district of Pakistan's eastern Punjab province. The tragedy occurred when the vehicle crashed and plummeted into a dry canal due to extremely low visibility caused by a heavy blanket of fog.

According to a statement from the rescue organization Rescue 1122, seven individuals died instantly at the scene of the crash. Emergency teams rushed the survivors to nearby hospitals, where another seven victims later succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total confirmed death toll to 14.

Preliminary reports indicate that the driver had diverted to a local route because the main motorway had been closed to traffic as a safety precaution against the hazardous foggy conditions. Rescue teams reached the site shortly after the incident was reported to launch relief operations and transport the victims to medical facilities.

Authorities have confirmed that all the deceased and injured were residents of Islamabad. Local officials are continuing to monitor the situation as families are notified of the tragedy.
