Egypt Issues Maritime Warning as Deep Low-Pressure System Approaches

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has issued a maritime warning effective from 2:00 AM Friday through 10:00 AM Saturday due to a deep low-pressure system causing severe weather instability. According to Dr. Manar Ghanem of the EMA media center, the Mediterranean Sea will face the brunt of the disturbance, with wind speeds reaching up to 70 km/h and wave heights surging between 3.5 and 5.5 meters. While the Red Sea will be less affected, it is still expected to see waves of 2 to 3 meters. Although maritime activities have not been officially suspended yet, officials are advising extreme caution and suggest that a formal halt to navigation is highly likely if conditions persist.

To mitigate risks, maritime expert Captain Mohamed Naguib recommends that vessel operators conduct thorough safety checks on engines, steering systems, and life-saving equipment while maintaining safe speeds. He stresses the importance of having emergency plans and ensuring crews are trained for sudden atmospheric changes. Ultimately, authorities strongly advise fishermen, tourists, and sports enthusiasts to avoid sailing or swimming during this period to ensure public safety and prevent accidents in the turbulent waters.
