Tyler Robinson Makes First In-Person Court Appearance in Charlie Kirk Murder Case
Utah: Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk, made his first in-person court appearance on Thursday. Robinson, dressed in a button-down shirt and tie, was accompanied by his parents and brother in the courtroom. The hearing addressed several issues, including media access and a gag order amendment.
Robinson is charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, obstruction of justice, two counts of witness tampering, and commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child. He allegedly shot and killed Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, during an outdoor event at Utah Valley University on September 10.
The judge addressed three issues regarding media access, including the release of an audio recording and transcript from a closed hearing on October 14. The judge also granted the state's motion to amend the gag order, defining the term "witness" to apply to those part of the prosecution and defense teams.
Robinson's next in-person hearing is scheduled for January 16, 2026. The prosecution is seeking death penalty in the case.
