Cambodia will deport 59 South Korean nationals on Friday for their alleged involvement in cyber fraud operations, authorities announced.
According to a statement from Cambodia’s national police, the individuals were either rescued from scam networks or detained for related criminal activities. Their repatriation follows close coordination between Cambodian authorities and the South Korean Embassy.
A special team from Seoul recently arrived in Cambodia to assess the situation and assist in the investigation into the growing number of South Koreans reportedly trapped or complicit in online scam schemes across the region.
Cambodian officials have been tightening efforts to combat cybercrime and human trafficking networks that lure foreign workers with false job offers before forcing them into illegal online operations.
