Strong Earthquake Hits Eastern Philippines, Tremors Felt Across Multiple Regions
A powerful earthquake struck eastern Philippines on Tuesday night, registering a magnitude of 6.7, according to official reports. The quake occurred at 9:59 p.m. local time (1:59 p.m. UTC) with a shallow depth of 9 km.
The epicenter was located 56 km west of Ormoc City, which has a population of approximately 191,000, and 16 km northeast of Bogo City in Cebu, home to around 23,500 residents. Some reports, however, have estimated the magnitude at 7.0.
Authorities have warned of potential damages and aftershocks in the Central Visayas region. The tremors were widely felt across the Visayas, Bicol, and parts of northern Mindanao.
Emergency services are monitoring the affected areas and assessing the situation to ensure public safety.
