Main Suspect Charged in Murder of Saudi Student in Cambridge

British prosecutors have formally charged Chaz Corrigan, the main suspect in the killing of Saudi scholarship student Mohammed Al-Qassim, with premeditated murder and possession of a bladed weapon in a public place.

Corrigan is scheduled to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on Monday, where he will be asked to enter a plea. Two other defendants connected to the case are expected to appear before the court at a later date.

Al-Qassim, 20, from Makkah, Saudi Arabia, was fatally stabbed on the evening of Friday, August 1, while spending the summer on a 10-week study program in Cambridge. He died instantly from a single stab wound to the neck, which measured 11.5 centimeters deep.

Following the tragedy, his body was repatriated to Saudi Arabia. Funeral prayers were held at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, after which he was laid to rest.
