Deadly Earthquake Strikes Afghanistan’s Kunar Province

A powerful earthquake shook Afghanistan late Sunday night, killing more than 250 people and injuring around 500 others, authorities confirmed.

The 6.0-magnitude quake struck just after midnight in Kunar province, sending shockwaves that were felt as far away as Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, hundreds of kilometres from the epicentre.

Rescue operations are underway as emergency teams rush to save those trapped under rubble and transfer the injured to nearby hospitals. The Afghan government has mobilized all available resources, including food and medical supplies, to support survivors in the hardest-hit areas.

The tremors also rattled parts of Tajikistan, Pakistan, and India, with the epicentre recorded between Jalalabad, Kunar, and Kabul. Aftershocks continue to be felt, leaving many residents in fear of further devastation.
