Yemen Huthi Prime Minister Killed in Israeli Airstrike

Yemen’s Huthi rebels announced on Saturday that their prime minister, Ahmed Ghaleb Nasser Al-Rahawi, was killed in an Israeli airstrike earlier this week, along with several other senior officials.

Al-Rahawi, appointed last year, is the highest-ranking Huthi official reported killed during a series of Israeli strikes linked to the ongoing war in Gaza.

A Huthi statement described the attack as targeting “the fighter Ahmed Ghaleb Nasser Al-Rahawi… along with several of his ministerial colleagues” and said others were injured with serious to moderate wounds and are receiving medical care.

The airstrike took place on Thursday in Sanaa, the Huthi-controlled capital. In response to the Gaza war, the Huthis have repeatedly fired missiles and drones at Israel.

The Israeli military confirmed the strike, saying it targeted “a Huthi terrorist regime military target.”

The Huthis have also claimed responsibility for attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden during the Gaza conflict, which they say are linked to Israel. The group controls large areas of Yemen and is part of Iran’s anti-Israel network in the Middle East.
